Grey Road bridge downgraded to 4‑ton limit; Squick Road contract headed to award

County roads staff updated the Board of Commissioners on multiple projects Tuesday and said one aging bridge has been posted with a 4‑ton weight restriction while it awaits replacement.
"It's been derated to four tons," the roads presenter said of the Grey Road bridge, and the county will post placards and proceed with replacement design through WYDOT when funding permits. The presenter noted the reduced rating may affect some freight deliveries to a nearby lodge and said staff will coordinate with affected property owners.
Other project notes included Buffalo Creek (DEQ review ongoing), the Herps gravel pit moving toward bid, and Squick Road: "I've got the contract back from the contractor. I'll review it this afternoon. It'll be on your next meeting for award to get that project going," roads staff said. Salt Creek (Edertton) bridge work began last Friday with a bypass expected to be completed within days of the meeting.
The board discussed long‑term needs and again raised the idea of creating a county reserve for bridge and building lifecycle repairs, noting unplanned failures (three elevator replacements at roughly $400,000 each were cited earlier in the meeting) can produce multi‑hundred‑thousand‑dollar demands.
The roads division also flagged continuing road‑acquisition work and said it would update the board as contracts proceed to formal award.
