Northfield council: police move to new building, community events scheduled

Fire Lt. Bob Davet said the weather-cancelled open house and touch-a-truck event had been rescheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and confirmed a helicopter is scheduled to appear. He also announced the annual department clambake at the VFW Pavilion on Sept. 19 from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with tickets available beginning Aug. 1.
The Recreation Board will meet Aug. 6 at Smith Park Pavilion (weather permitting). The July movie in the park drew about 40 attendees; the next outdoor movie (Raya and the Last Dragon) will be shown on Aug. 9 at sundown and a Party in the Park/Cornhole Tournament is scheduled for Aug. 16.
Councilmember Zach Hebebrand complimented the turnout at the movie and raised the new state-mandated cybersecurity requirements for public entities, noting employee training is a central component of the rules. Service Department Superintendent Jason Walters was not present at the meeting.
The meeting adjourned after council entered and exited an executive session to consider the appointment of a public official; the record does not specify whether an appointment resulted from that session.
