Commission backs rezoning to let beauty/barber shop operate as commercial business on Carver Road

The Henry County Planning Commission on May 13 recommended that the Board of Supervisors rezone 765 Carver Road from Suburban Residential District S-R to Office and Professional District B-3 to allow conversion of an existing home-occupation beauty/barber operation into a commercial shop.
Lee Clark, Director of Planning, Zoning and Inspection, explained that the property historically operated as a beauty/barber shop and previously held a special use permit that allowed a resident to run a home occupation. The rezoning to B-3 would permit the residence to continue as a single-family home while also allowing office-type and low-intensity commercial uses such as a beauty or barber shop run by a person who does not live on the premises.
Linda P. Brim, the applicant, spoke in favor from the audience, saying the change would be good for the community and would help foster positive relationships with customers. No members of the public spoke in opposition.
Commissioner Richard Reynolds moved to request that the Board of Supervisors approve the rezoning; Commissioner Glenwood Vaughn seconded. The motion passed unanimously with two absences. The commission’s recommendation will be forwarded to the Board of Supervisors for final action.
