Burbank council adopts resolution opposing elimination of property taxes in Ohio

Burbank — The Village of Burbank Council unanimously adopted Resolution 2026R-01 on May 7, formally opposing any statewide effort to eliminate all property taxes.
Solicitor Allan Michelson reviewed the calendar for placing general fund levies on the November ballot, explaining the village would need an ordinance in June requesting revenue authorization from the county auditor and a follow-up resolution in July to secure placement on the ballot. Fiscal Officer Gary Harris told council that state officials are seeking legislation opposing a prospective property-tax elimination measure and that sample legislation was available at the meeting for first reading.
Allan performed the first reading of Resolution 2026R-01. Council member Terry Moore moved to waive the second and third readings; Marti McCord seconded. The council then voted to adopt Resolution 2026R-01 by a 4-0 vote.
The resolution expresses the village’s opposition; it does not itself create or change any village tax or levy. Allan advised that if the village wishes to place levies on the ballot, the ordinance and resolution timing steps described at the meeting must be followed. Council authorized Allan to prepare the valuation ordinance language required for those steps.
