Northfield council authorizes five-year animal-control services agreement with Summit County

The Village of Northfield council voted unanimously on Nov. 12 to authorize Mayor Jenn Domzalski to execute a five-year Animal Control Services agreement with Summit County.
Law Director Brad Bryan explained the Village had historically declined such a contract over concerns that residents might generate billable calls or drop off animals directly at the County facility. He said the current contract version restricts calls and drop-offs to authorized Village officials only and thus addresses that billing concern. Under the terms discussed, the County would charge the Village $60 per animal per day for up to three days (not to exceed $180 per animal unless an animal must be held longer for court proceedings) and $50 per animal for euthanasia or disposal; the County would invoice the Village monthly and the Village pays only if it uses the service.
Councilmember Gary Vojtush made the motion to authorize the Mayor to execute the agreement; Alan Hipps seconded. The roll call vote was unanimous: Zach Hebebrand-yes; Renell Noack-yes; Gary Vojtush-yes; Nick Magistrelli-yes; Alan Hipps-yes; Kevin Lewis-yes.
No implementation date was announced at the meeting. Council did not adopt additional conditions at the time; the agreement and any operational procedures would be implemented according to the contract terms and future administrative steps.
