North Royalton plans resurfacing for Abbey and Akins roads under county 50/50 program

The North Royalton Streets Committee agreed to advance two resurfacing projects — Abbey Road and Akins Road — as part of the city’s 2025 road maintenance program. Engineering representative Brian Binsley said the projects will be advertised on May 8, with bids due May 23, and staff hope to request authorization at the committee’s first June meeting.
Binsley told the committee the work is a standard 3-inch mill-and-fill and that both streets are eligible for a Cuyahoga County 50/50 resurfacing program that covers 50% of costs, up to $250,000 per road. "We’ll avoid resurfacing Abbey Road until the sewer project is finished," Binsley said; Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz added that the Akins Road work will extend from State Road to the Broadview line and that curb repairs will take place before asphalting.
The committee discussed scheduling to coordinate with the sewer project and curb work so paving is not repeated. Binsley said staff will provide a list showing crash history, study recommendations and estimated costs for intersections if the committee wants to prioritize related safety work.
A formal authorization request for the two resurfacing projects is expected at the June meeting, pending bid results and available budget.
