Superintendent: Winthrop could gain roughly $111,000 under LD2226; budget vote scheduled

Dr. Foley reported the resignation of Emily Tibido, a second‑grade teacher, effective at the end of the school year, and encouraged board members to attend the town council meeting on April 27, when the council is scheduled to vote on the district’s proposed 5.4% appropriation request. If the council approves the appropriation, Dr. Foley said the next step would be a community vote on June 10.
He provided several operational updates: four high‑school students are currently truant for more than 20 days (a report required by statute), the district’s April 1 enrollment count shows five more students since last October, and Bruce Mortimer donated funds to install railings on bleachers to improve safety. Dr. Foley also said schools involved in litigation with the Maine Human Rights Commission continue to submit written arguments and that oral arguments are expected later in the summer.
What’s next: the town council vote on the appropriation is scheduled for April 27; if approved, a community vote on the full budget would be held June 10.
