Members of the Energy Efficiency Sustainability Committee said they will coordinate with the Climate Action Committee and pursue school-district support for the Maine Green Schools Initiative following the Jan. 8 meeting.
Committee member Maggie Bartenhagen reported that she attended a Climate Action Committee meeting and emphasized the need to collaborate rather than duplicate efforts; Select Board liaison Karen Plattes has scheduled a meeting with Lisa (the Climate Action Committee’s Select Board liaison) to discuss shared work. Members said they intend to support the Maine Green Schools Initiative and suggested beginning with outreach to a board member; Ian Murphy and David Morrison expressed willingness to participate.
Ian Murphy raised the need for building energy audits and discussed potential benefits from installing three-layer windows, which he said could yield significant payback. Joe Wolfson noted that “No Idling” signs had been posted with his involvement and said additional signs will be placed once the ground thaws in spring.
The committee did not take formal votes on these items at the meeting but agreed to pursue intercommittee meetings and additional outreach as next steps.
