West Bath creates A2K trail committee and handles multiple routine town items

The West Bath Select Board voted to create a three-member Androsken-to-Kenny (A2K) trail committee with two alternates so West Bath residents can contribute to planning for the walking path that links Brunswick and Bath.
Helen Hudson, who organized West Bath residents and hosted meetings at her home, urged the board to ensure town input on routing, river crossings and parking. "I want to make sure that you know we have a seat at the table and that this path works for West Bath residents," Hudson said. Board members discussed committee size and alternates, then a member moved to create a three-member committee with two alternates; that motion was seconded and the board directed staff to advertise applications on the town website and at town hall.
The board also handled a series of routine administrative items. A member moved to restore 95.79 hours to the town administrator’s vacation bank after payroll and leave calculations showed the administrator could not take the time; fellow members voiced support. The board tabled a proposed long-term mowing contract pending further edits and requested the contract be circulated in tracked changes.
Staff (Carly) clarified a licensing issue: conservation hours completed under a student license do not carry forward to an adult license under the ordinance, and the board said it will confirm DMR guidance and schedule a lottery for available licenses once advertising logistics are set. Members also discussed ARPA-funded front-door repairs and a generator purchase; vendor delays and rising prices were cited as reasons to consider acting promptly.
Public commenters offered brief praise for town services before the board moved to future agenda items and adjourned to executive session for personnel evaluation under 1 MRSA 405(6)(A).
Next steps: staff to advertise committee vacancies and return with the town administrator’s leave adjustment confirmation and any updates on the mowing contract, conservation-lottery logistics and vendor procurement.
