West Bath board approves hires, student handbook, health service contract and field trip

The West Bath School Board on Aug. 21 approved a package of routine items including personnel announcements, the 2024–25 student/parent handbook, a health-service agreement and a fifth-grade overnight field trip.
The superintendent introduced two new educational technicians the district intends to hire: "kayn hog," reported as having three years’ experience, and Rachel Keller, described as having 16 years supporting students with autism. The superintendent said both hires were highly recommended and praised their fit for the district.
The board approved the 2024–25 student/parent handbook with minor language changes; a board member described it as a "well written positive student centered handbook." The board also approved the district’s service agreement with Dr. Hannah to provide physician support and thanked Dr. Hannah for continued service.
The board approved membership and bylaws for the WBSU certification committee, confirming Mrs. Fuller and Mrs. Franklin to multi-year terms and the superintendent as the administrator. The board also approved a fifth-grade overnight encampment focused on environmental education and team building, scheduled for Oct. 1–4; the superintendent noted the dates are earlier than typical this year because of Indigenous Peoples Day timing.
Most votes were recorded as "all in favor" and unanimous; the superintendent characterized the items as routine approvals necessary to start the school year. The board set its next meeting for Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. and adjourned.
