The West Bath School Board voted Aug. 21 to approve revised job descriptions for educational technician (EdTech) positions, clarifying the distinction between EdTech 2 and EdTech 3 roles.
The superintendent explained the EdTech 2 description emphasizes work "in collaboration with teachers," while the EdTech 3 description emphasizes work "in consultation with teachers," providing clearer criteria for autonomy and responsibilities. Changes also update language (for example, ‘‘field work’’ instead of ‘‘field trips’’ and "schoolwide meetings" instead of "assemblies") and refocus job goals toward student-centered support rather than solely supporting teachers.
The superintendent said the revisions were reviewed against state language for these classifications and had gone through meet-and-consult with the bargaining association. After discussion a motion to approve the revisions was made, seconded and carried unanimously.
Board members said the clarified criteria will allow annual staffing decisions to be made based on building needs rather than automatic longevity-based promotions, and the district will continue to post openings internally when appropriate.
