Wythe County supervisors on June 9 approved a series of water and wastewater decisions that affect rates, project finances and regional water financing.
The Board approved final quantity change-order deductions on the Barrett Mill Road water project: Division 1 Change Order #4 ($341,042.00 deduct) and Division 2 Change Order #2 ($545,813.20 deduct). The Board then set a public hearing for July 14, 2026, to consider a proposed 5% increase to water rates and to raise the water-connection fee to $2,300 per connection. The board also set Progress Park enterprise zone utility rates as presented.
To support upcoming work, the Board authorized the County Administrator to negotiate interim financing for the Dunford Road project with VML/VACO Finance. Supervisors also approved a resolution supporting issuance of a revenue refunding bond by the New River Regional Water Authority.
All listed water-and-infrastructure motions were approved by the supervisors present, typically by unanimous roll-call votes. The Board noted the need for public notice and comment on any rate changes at the July public hearing.
