Walton Hills council approves CDBG application, insurance contracts and several service agreements

The Village of Walton Hills council voted on April 21 to approve a bundle of resolutions authorizing grant applications, service contracts and employee insurance agreements.
Mayor introduced Resolution 2026-15, which authorizes the mayor and village engineer to apply for a Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $200,000 and declares an emergency; the council approved suspension of rules and adopted the resolution by unanimous voice votes. "I'd like to introduce resolution 2026-15 ... authorizing the mayor and village engineer to make application for a community development block grant in the amount of $200,000 and declaring an emergency," the mayor said during the introduction.
Council also approved Resolution 2026-13, authorizing an agreement with Waterville Club Company (DBA Waterville Lake) to provide recreation services for Walton Hills residents through the remainder of 2026; Resolution 2026-14 to participate in the Ohio Department of Transportation rock salt contract; and Resolution 2026-17 to renew a contract with Sharp Scapes Incorporated for senior and handicapped lawn-care services for the 2026 season. Each of those resolutions was moved, seconded and adopted after the council voted to suspend the three-reading rule.
The council adopted multiple employee-benefit resolutions: Resolution 2026-20 authorizing a contract with The Standard for basic life and accidental death and dismemberment insurance, Resolution 2026-21 authorizing a contract with Cigna Healthcare for employee health insurance, and Resolution 2026-22 authorizing MetLife dental coverage. In each case members recorded voice votes in favor and the measures passed.
Most votes were recorded by voice, with council members answering "yes" when called; the meeting transcript records no recorded defeats on these items. The meeting was procedural in tone and concluded after community announcements and an adjournment vote.
The council next steps: the CDBG application will proceed through the administrative process led by the mayor and village engineer; the insurance and service contracts will be executed consistent with the resolutions authorizing them.
