Resident raises intersection sightline worry; council hears about truck inspections and Community Connect program

During public comment at the Sept. 2 Committee of the Whole, a resident who lives at 706 Drive asked whether the village has an ordinance addressing obstructed intersection sightlines, saying overgrown bushes force drivers partly into the street to see oncoming traffic.

Council members and staff acknowledged previous maintenance attempts and said the mayor would follow up with the resident to pursue remediation. No specific ordinance was cited or adopted during the meeting; staff indicated they have had difficulty working with the property owner in the past.

Separately, a council member asked whether the highway patrol had conducted truck inspections on Alexander Road. Respondents described the activity as an inspection rather than a sting and noted the operation led to a man found in possession of a gun and marijuana; the mayor said he would follow up for additional details.

Council members also reported on community services: the recreation and community life committee reviewed summer programs, senior trips and a plan to upgrade baseball fields; and a councilmember highlighted the Walton Hills Community Connect program run with the Oakwood Fire Department, which lets residents create a secure online profile (household members, pets, medical needs) first responders can consult during emergency calls.

Next steps: mayor/staff will follow up with the resident about the sightline complaint and with public safety officials on the results of the truck inspection. The recreation committee will continue planning field upgrades and program scheduling.
