Natalie, the Village of Alton Hills recreation director, reviewed the department’s summer programs and special events at the Sept. 2 meeting. “The Parker program brought in 11,435 and our expenses were $7,420,” she reported.
Natalie said Parker enrolled 19 children this year and that some residents missed the registration deadline, which limited participation. Committee members asked whether the transportation revenue line (approximately $26.96) accounts for fuel and vehicle maintenance; Natalie said she would look up which costs are offset and who pays for them.
Staff said rentals have been steady and that every event now requires an event coordinator; committee members said coordinators help ensure events are staffed and reduce day‑of problems. The committee discussed gaps in programming for middle‑aged adults (roughly 20–30 year olds) and noted evening class timing likely affects attendance for working adults.
The committee reviewed upcoming dates and special events: a party on Oct. 12 (5:30–8:30 p.m.), a party on Oct. 26 (time changed), and a tree lighting on Saturday, Dec. 6. Staff reported senior trips and programs are doing well, yoga classes added a section that proved popular, and CPR was offered three times this season.
No formal decisions or budget appropriations were made during the review; staff will return with requested clarifications on transportation accounting and any recommended program changes for next year.
What’s next: Staff to provide details on transportation revenue offsets, and the committee will consider programming ideas (including options to draw more mid‑age adults) when preparing next year’s schedule and budget.
