The Danville Heritage/Historic District Commission discussed stepped-up preservation work and local-history outreach at its May 13 meeting.
Members agreed to inspect the Stagecoach Stop and the Little Red Schoolhouse during June and July and to set a cleanup date at the commission’s next meeting on June 10 to prepare for Old Home Days. Selectmen’s representative Scott Barr reported he had recently inspected the buildings and found no evidence of water damage or large pests, although he noted some mouse droppings. Commissioners discussed cleaning options, including using a shop vacuum to avoid blowing dust into the air.
The commission reviewed a packet of donated materials — a historic plate and VHS tapes — said to have been provided by a historical society in Sandown. Vice chair Sayra DeVito said the Sandown group would like to meet this summer to swap records and compare inventory methods; Josh Manning noted that Sandown’s town history is linked geographically with Danville and that some 200‑acre grants and stone walls line up across town boundaries.
Under Old Business, members said they were working to arrange oral-history interviews. Marianne Sears reported she left another message for Rick Russack and will verify phone numbers with excused member Carsten Springer; a date to interview Doreen Snow still needs to be set. Josh Manning continued a search for an early 1970s photograph of the Fire Association Hall in the community center files and on town social media.
Other items: commissioners discussed daffodil and tree plantings available at Tractor Supply and potential volunteers with trucks to pick them up; Christi Unger mentioned a possible site visit to Sanborn Mills Farm to see a working grist mill and woodworking shops; and Sayra DeVito announced the NH Timberland Owners Association annual meeting on June 6 at Canterbury Shaker Village (8 a.m.–3 p.m., tickets $55).
The meeting closed at 8:03 p.m. with a motion to adjourn.
