Wyoming State Fair updates, volunteer dates and new CCTPB director announced

Courtny Conkle of the Wyoming State Fair informed board members of the sudden passing of one of the fair’s maintenance team members. Conkle also announced volunteer grounds clean-up dates for 2026 on June 13, July 25 and Aug. 1 and said she will meet with contractors next week to finalize a timetable for Gate 3 construction and the placement of the Jack & Hare’etta sculpture; the board was told an update would be available at the next meeting.
Kota Provence (Wyoming State Fair) said the fair will release an RFP for three marketing contracts and that she will work on the 2026 Wyoming State Fair media buy and share that information with the board in the coming weeks.
Local attractions and partners reported plans for summer programming: Jenn Rose of the Douglas Visitor Center and Railroad Museum summarized events including Tea on the Train, Park It events and preparations for Jackalope Days; Eber Rodriguez of Douglas Main Street described downtown activities including a Cookie Hoop event, a riverside cleanup scheduled for May 17 and downtown flower planting on May 16; Candace Benedetta said the Glenrock Visitor Center is advertising for summer staff, has seen increased visitor traffic and is adding new gift shop items.
The board also welcomed Elizabeth Coontz as the new director of the Converse County Tourism Promotion Board; a meet-and-greet was scheduled for April 29 at Blend, Coontz will begin full-time employment May 15 and plans to complete her move to Douglas by June 4.
