County accepts $50,000 Water Merger/Regionalization feasibility grant for study

Martin County commissioners on Oct. 9 approved a $50,000 budget amendment to accept a Water Merger/Regionalization Feasibility Grant from the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Water Infrastructure Fund.
Finance Director Cindy Ange told the Board the county had been awarded $50,000 and that McGill Associates was the contracted firm approved at a June 12 meeting to perform the feasibility work. Commissioner Ronnie Smith moved to approve Budget Amendment #4 and Commissioner Elmo “Butch” Lilley seconded; the motion passed unanimously (5-0).
Budget Amendment #4 increases General Fund contracted services by $50,000 with a corresponding increase to restricted intergovernmental revenue. The study will analyze options for water system merger or regionalization; the contract and scope are under the previously authorized agreement with McGill Associates.
The Board did not authorize construction or capital works at the Oct. 9 meeting; the action funds the feasibility study only.
