Commissioners approve audit extension, authorize sale of surplus firearms and confirm appointments

At its Nov. 13 meeting the Martin County Board of Commissioners approved several administrative and procedural items, including an extension to the county audit contract, authorization to sell surplus firearms, and numerous board reappointments.
Staff asked the Board to amend an audit contract with Carr, Riggs & Ingram, Inc. to extend the contract through Dec. 31, 2019, because classification issues involving a water‑district management agreement delayed preparation of financial statements. Commissioner Ronnie Smith moved to amend the contract; Commissioner Joe R. Ayers seconded and the Board approved the amendment unanimously.
The Board also adopted a resolution authorizing County Manager David Bone and Finance Officer Cindy Ange to sell firearms declared surplus via private sale, a step permitted under North Carolina General Statute § 160A‑266. Vice Chairman Dempsey Bond Jr. moved adoption of the resolution, Commissioner Ronnie Smith seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
Several reappointments were approved as part of the consent agenda, including members to the Martin County Regional Water and Sewer Authority (MCRWASA), the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council and the Central Communications Advisory Board. The Board entered a closed session under NC G.S. 143‑318.11(a)(6) for personnel matters at 7:39 p.m. and returned to open session at 7:51 p.m.; the meeting adjourned at 7:51 p.m.
