Martin County commissioners adopt CDBG closeout, award utility contracts and approve local budget items

The Martin County Board of Commissioners met March 11 in Williamston and unanimously approved a series of administrative actions, infrastructure contracts and budget amendments following presentations from county staff and outside agencies.
The board opened and approved the agenda and consent items, which included minutes and financial reports, and authorized the Finance Office to dispose of specified pre‑2013–2017 personnel and payroll supporting documents in accordance with state retention rules.
At a required public hearing the board adopted a resolution authorizing the closeout of the county’s FY‑14 Community Development Block Grant Building Reuse project for AR Textiles, a renovation of an 80,400‑square‑foot industrial building in Robersonville that was partially financed by a $75,000 CDBG award. County Manager David Bone described the closeout purpose and noted documentation would be forwarded to the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Finance Director Cindy Ange presented the dental insurance renewal and two budget amendments. The board approved the Ameritas renewal with a 6.5% increase and approved two budget amendments that fund Martin County’s share of a regional jail feasibility study and the CTS software enhancement for transit operations.
Administrative notes and next steps
The board accepted multiple board and advisory appointments and reappointments, and County Manager David Bone noted the county will host a fellow focused on grant writing. The meeting adjourned at 8:54 p.m.; the next meeting is scheduled for April 8, 2020 at 7:00 p.m.
