Council fails to hire recommended police candidate; retroactive appointment made for code enforcement officer

Councilor Steadman moved to hire Fye as a full‑time officer, but the motion received no second and therefore died; the chief said he would follow up with the applicant and the council will revisit the matter at a future meeting.
Separately, the Personnel Committee recommended Mark Zigler for Code Enforcement Officer. Council moved to retroactively appoint Zigler; Councilor Uber recorded opposition citing a residency concern, but the motion carried. Council minutes note Zigler is available to begin training July 12, 2024, and can start active duties July 29, 2024.
