Mount Arlington mayor voices solidarity with Roxbury amid resident objections to proposed facility

Two residents used the public-comment period at the Feb. 3 Mount Arlington council meeting to seek the borough’s support against a facility proposed in neighboring Roxbury.
Michael Shannon asked the governing body to show support for Roxbury. Kevin Hoopes requested that Mount Arlington adopt a resolution opposing the proposed facility and read portions of an email he had sent to the council prior to the meeting. Mayor Stanzilis acknowledged Hoopes’s email and said he had read Roxbury’s Resolution 29-26 and spoken with Roxbury’s mayor. "We stand arm and arm with our brothers and sisters in Roxbury and we support that resolution 100%," he said, adding that Mount Arlington will act within the law while protecting local residents’ interests.
The minutes record the mayor’s verbal support for Roxbury’s resolution but do not show that Mount Arlington adopted a formal opposing resolution on Feb. 3.
