Mount Arlington council introduces ordinances for playground, housing code, development fees and $300,000 firehouse expansion

The Mount Arlington Borough Council on Feb. 3 introduced a package of six ordinances addressing parks, housing rules, development fees and municipal facilities, and approved several routine resolutions.
Council members voted unanimously to introduce Ordinance 01-2026, which would appropriate $100,000 from the Capital Improvement Fund to replace playground equipment at Fireman’s Field. Council also introduced Ordinance 06-2026, a $300,000 appropriation from the Capital Improvement Fund to expand the main fire house apparatus bays; council members said the expansion is intended to accommodate a ladder truck the department expects to receive this summer. Both introductions passed on motion and unanimous roll-call votes.
The meeting also introduced several land-use and housing-related ordinances: Ordinance 02-2026 would repeal and replace Article XVII, “Affordable Housing Obligations,” in the borough’s Land Development Ordinance; Ordinance 03-2026 would establish a Howard Boulevard Train Station Inclusionary Zone; and Ordinance 04-2026 would repeal and replace Article XVIII, “Development Fees.” Ordinance 05-2026 would update the Valley Road Planned Unit Development zone. Each ordinance was introduced by motion and approved for introduction by unanimous roll-call votes of the council members present.

All six ordinances were introduced for first reading at the meeting; none were adopted as final law on Feb. 3. The ordinances will follow the borough’s statutory process for subsequent public hearings and final votes.
