Valley View council approves ordinances, appointments and bridge funding resolution

Valley View village council on Jan. 6 approved a slate of ordinances, several appointments and a bridge rehabilitation resolution after suspending rules to place several items on third and final reading.
Actions taken included:
- Ordinance 2026‑1‑1: Passed to pay certain claims for December 2025 (unanimous recorded vote).
- Ordinance 2026‑1‑2: Appointed Anthony McCarrick as a full‑time member of the Valley View Fire Department; council suspended the rules, passed the ordinance and McCarrick was sworn in. The fire chief introduced McCarrick and described his background; family members attended the swearing and council provided refreshments afterward.
- Salary changes: Council approved salary changes for FOP Lodge 67, IAFF Local 2634 and AFSCME effective the first full pay period of 2026.
- Resolution 2026‑1‑3: Council passed a resolution requesting Kayahaga County proceed with rehabilitation of Rockside Road Bridge number 3.32 and resolving that the village will pay 100% of engineering and construction engineering costs for lighting and mechanical enhancements.
- Ordinances 2026‑1‑4, 2026‑1‑5, 2026‑1‑6: Passed ordinances allowing Patrolman John Crew to retain his retirement duty weapon, implementing a work‑schedule for non‑bargaining employees (effective through Dec. 31, 2028), and amending the personnel policy holiday section; each was placed on third reading and passed by recorded vote.
Appointments and administrative actions included selecting Chuck Wilson as council president for 2026, appointing a council representative to the planning board (Jim Sp.), adding Marty Johnson, Joe White, Mike Perovich and Jerry Pioeki to the planning board, appointing two recreation board members (Don Pollson and one listed in the transcript as "needed justice"), and naming Chuck Wilson as the council representative to the EDG board.
Clerk‑Treasurer Snider presented two finance committee items the council approved: authorization of an annual list of purchase orders and an upgrade to the village server through TTX for an amount listed in the packet as $41,129.28. Council recorded affirmative votes on both items.
