Caribou County commissioners deny two indigent claims, approve one medical case

Commissioners unanimously denied two indigent claims after finding the county was not the obligating authority or last resource, and approved one medical indigent application that met program requirements.
At its Dec. 12 meeting the Caribou County Board of Commissioners considered several indigent claims and related liens.
Denise Horsley, Indigent Director, presented liens for signature on cases 1205 and 1206. Commissioner Phil Christensen moved to deny case 1204A on the ground that Caribou County is not the obligating county; Commissioner Earl Somsen seconded and the motion carried with Commissioners Lloyd Rasmussen, Phil Christensen and Earl Somsen voting yes.
Commissioner Christensen later moved to deny case 1204 because the county was not the last resource; that motion also carried unanimously. By contrast, Commissioner Christensen moved to approve case 1206 for the medical indigent program, stating the applicant had met all program requirements; Commissioner Somsen seconded and the board approved the case by unanimous vote.
The minutes record the board’s formal votes but do not include applicants’ names, the amounts involved in the claims, or further factual findings beyond the board’s stated reasons for denial or approval.
