County staff flags gaps in fire district maps; commissioners ask fire districts to meet
Summary
A GIS review found parcels bordering Freedom Fire District that are not included in it; the county clerk said the fire district must annex those properties. The board asked fire district commissioners to meet with the county at the next meeting.
Sheldon Mansfield, Caribou County GIS staff, told the commissioners that his mapping for election zoning revealed areas bordering the Freedom Fire District that are not included within the district boundaries. Mansfield said there are currently no structures in the Freedom Fire District, while adjacent Bailey Creek Fire District includes structures and contracts with the Caribou County Fire Department for protection.
Clerk Veda Mascarenas stated that it is the responsibility of the fire district to annex property into the district and to present annexation to the Board of Commissioners. The commissioners asked the commissioners of the relevant fire districts to meet with county officials at the next meeting to discuss resolution of the boundary gaps.
The discussion focused on identifying which parcels require annexation; no annexation was completed at the Jan. 23 meeting.
