County outlines summer road plans, flags parking hazard and Mingo Bridge guardrail

Road and Bridge Supervisor Kim Spencer told commissioners Jan. 23 that parked stock and hay trucks are creating hazards on county roadways; the board will address the issue this summer. Spencer also reported Mingo Bridge is finished except for guardrail and said the county will seek summer asphalt through a piggyback with Bingham County.
Kim Spencer, Caribou County road and bridge supervisor, reported several operational items to the Board of Commissioners during the Jan. 23 meeting.
Spencer said stock and hay trucks parking on roadways have created safety hazards and that the board asked staff to address the issue during the summer season. She reported that work on Mingo Bridge is complete except for installation of the guardrail.
The supervisor said the county approved part-time summer help and will interview candidates for an open road-and-bridge position on Feb. 27, 2012. Spencer also said the county will attempt to piggyback asphalt procurement with neighboring Bingham County to obtain summer asphalt more efficiently.
On routine maintenance costs, she noted that painting center lines on county highways was discussed and estimated at about $275 per mile; no final decision was made. Spencer said she is continuing to seek a replacement vehicle for the department.
The commissioners did not take a separate formal vote on the center-line painting or vehicle replacement during the meeting; those items remain under staff review.
