Caribou County to form committee to address recycling storage, equipment and Tyhee Road agreement

Kim Spencer, Caribou County Road and Bridge supervisor, told the Board of Commissioners on Feb. 13 that the county’s recently launched recycling program is running into storage and cost-efficiency problems and needs more planning.
Spencer said cardboard must be kept dry, requiring lids on dumpsters, and the county lacks sufficient secure storage for collected materials. Carl Toupin and Allen Skinner (City of Soda Springs) attended the discussion; all parties agreed to form a committee and meet at the next commissioners’ meeting on Feb. 27 to develop solutions.
Spencer also reported the welding machine at the Soda Shop has failed. The machine is more than 30 years old; Spencer estimated a replacement would cost about $4,000 and asked that bids be solicited for welding-shop work. No purchase decision was made at the Feb. 13 meeting.
On roads, Spencer said the county’s existing agreement with Lincoln County, Wyoming, may need renegotiation over responsibilities related to Tyhee Road; commissioners did not take action and asked for further review.
The commissioners did not take votes on the recycling-storage plan, the welder replacement, or the Tyhee Road arrangement at the Feb. 13 session; those items are scheduled for further consideration at the Feb. 27 meeting.
