Caribou County commissioners unanimously deny five indigent assistance applications

The Caribou County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted on March 12 to deny five indigent assistance applications, the board record shows.
Denise Horsley, the county's Indigent Director, presented Case Nos. 1211, 1212, 1213, 1214 and 1216 for consideration. Commissioner Phil Christensen moved to deny Case No. 1211 on the grounds the application was incomplete and because the applicant is deceased; Commissioner Earl Somsen seconded and the motion carried with Commissioners Lloyd Rasmussen (chairman), Phil Christensen and Earl Somsen voting yes.
Christensen moved to deny Case No. 1212 because the applicant failed to cooperate and appeared to have discretionary income to pay within a five-year period; Somsen seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board denied Case No. 1213 after the applicant failed to appear for an interview and appeared to have discretionary income; Case No. 1214 was denied because the application was not filed timely. The board also denied Case No. 1216 because the applicant was not a Caribou County resident. Each denial was moved by Commissioner Phil Christensen, seconded by Commissioner Earl Somsen, and approved by unanimous vote (Rasmussen, Christensen, Somsen).
The denials are recorded in the March 12 minutes; no appeals, continuances or follow-up instructions were recorded in the meeting transcript. The board's next regular meeting was scheduled for March 26, 2012.
