Caribou County moves staff, plans bridge replacements after storm damages Roof

Road and Bridge Supervisor Kim Spencer told the Caribou County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 27 that runoff this year will require more culvert work and that chip hauling will take about two days. She asked to move one employee from the landfill to Road and Bridge and one from Road and Bridge to the landfill; the board granted that staffing swap.
Spencer also requested replacing at least one of the county’s two remaining wooden bridges if the budget allows, identifying a 14‑span bridge on Davis Road and a 22‑span bridge on Coffman Road as candidates for steel replacement. “If budget allows Kim requested to replace at least 1 of the 2 wooden bridges with steel,” Spencer said during her report.
Spencer reported that strong winds blew the Road and Bridge office roof off over the weekend; Public Safety Director Dennis Godfrey said repair quotes are being obtained. “Dennis Godfrey is in the process of getting quotes for repair,” Godfrey told the board.
After an executive session, the board approved a motion to hire one employee for the Road and Bridge Department. Commissioner Somsen moved to hire one employee for the Road and Bridge Department; Commissioner Christensen seconded, and the vote was recorded as Rasmussen yes, Christensen yes and Somsen yes.
The staffing changes and the hiring motion address immediate operational needs identified by Spencer, while the bridge replacement request will depend on available budget and future prioritization by the board.
