Residents urge council to reject Upton Crossing PDD, citing traffic, flooding and wetlands

During the public-comment portion of the Pataskala City Council meeting, homeowner Gordy Weber said residents near the proposed Upton Crossing planned development want council and staff to be aware of concerns about traffic, flooding and wetlands.
"They're planning to build over two of the three wetlands," Weber said, and described the proposal as a PDD that would rezone roughly 60-plus acres to allow "360 apartments along with 95 individual home sites." He argued the development would add approximately a thousand daily vehicle trips at the Taylor Road and Broad Street intersection and stressed that neighbors are not fundamentally opposed to development but believe this proposal is the wrong type for the site.
Weber said he has submitted a written outline of homeowner concerns to council and that opponents will attend the July 1 zoning board meeting where the application will be considered. Other commenters in the meeting also expressed general opposition to dense housing, citing potential impacts on local schools.
Council did not take action on the Upton Crossing proposal at this meeting; Weber said the zoning board process remains ongoing and residents plan to attend future hearings.
