Local teachers thank city and campus program after completing master’s cohort

Two educators addressed the Huron City Commission during the public forum on June 15 to thank city leaders for local support that helped them complete a master’s-in-teaching cohort.
"My name is Desiree Glamzer and I teach fifth-grade English-language learners in the Huron School District," said Desiree Glamzer, who described completing the cohort last Friday. Andrea Olsen, who provides Title services for the Huron School District and teaches physical education at Holy Trinity, said she and fellow teachers began the program in fall 2024 and were officially finished as of last Friday.
Both speakers praised the nearby campus and lower cost of the program, saying it allowed them to pursue an advanced degree while continuing their classroom work. "The courses challenged me to reflect on my teaching practices and provide valuable tools that I can use with my students each day," Glamzer said.
Mayor Robert thanked the educators and acknowledged staff and commissioners who supported bringing the program to the campus center. The remarks came during the meeting’s public forum and did not require commission action.
The commission proceeded to its consent and business items after public comment.
