Calhoun County supervisors adopt FY 2026–27 budget, approve road vacation and multiple county permits

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors met April 28, 2026, at the courthouse in Rockwell City and unanimously adopted the county’s FY 2026–27 budget and approved a separate road-vacation resolution, the board said.
The board opened a public hearing at 9:10 a.m. on Resolution No. 2026-13, which would vacate a county right-of-way in Greenfield Township. No written or oral objections were filed, the board closed the hearing at 9:12 a.m. and approved the resolution on a motion by Vice Chairman Dave George, seconded by Supervisor Cory Ridgely. The vote was recorded as unanimous.
The supervisors also approved the FY 2026–27 budget and authorized Chair Scott Jacobs to sign it after a 9:25 a.m. public hearing yielded no comments or objections. The motion to adopt the budget was made by Supervisor Cory Ridgely and seconded by Vice Chairman Dave George; the motion passed unanimously.
Beyond the budget and road vacation, the board approved two underground utility permits for the Calhoun County Electric Cooperative Association: Permit 4-2026 for a URD primary under the Raccoon River and along 390th and Iberia Avenue, and Permit 5-2026 for a URD primary under a creek in Section 18 of Center Township. The board approved the Iowa Department of Transportation’s five-year budget program and accepted payroll status updates recognizing Steven Gerdes and Jeffrey Cates for 10 years of service and confirming Dylan Dorage’s completion of a six-month probationary period.
On financial business, the supervisors reviewed and allowed claims checks 81785–81878 and bank drafts DFT0005870–DFT0005889 and allowed drainage claim 81879. The board approved Transfer Resolution 2026-11 (LOSST Fund to Secondary Roads Fund, corrective to a 2025 resolution) and Transfer Resolution 2026-12 (Rural Services to Secondary Roads). The board set a public hearing for FY 25/26 budget amendments for May 19, 2026, at 9:20 a.m.
The meeting included routine approvals of quarterly reports from county offices and the acceptance of the Civil Service Commission eligibility list. The supervisors adjourned to their next regular meeting on May 5, 2026.
