Calhoun County supervisors approve budget, road and drainage measures in unanimous votes

The Calhoun County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously May 5 to adopt several county measures, including its fiscal year 2027 budget and separate salary resolution, and to authorize a series of road and drainage repairs.
The board, composed of Chairman Scott Jacobs, Vice Chairman Dave George and Member Cory Ridgely, approved the budget for July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027 and a salary resolution for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2026. Both actions are recorded in the minutes as Resolution 2026-14; the resolutions are on file in the auditor’s office.
Also during the meeting the board approved a crack-sealing contract with Denco Highway Construction Corp for $53,944.10 to seal cracks on P13 from D36 south to D46 and approved FY27 payroll increases for the Secondary Roads department. The board additionally approved an estimate of $4,500 to replace tile on DD 193 and authorized drainage work orders C-04-2026, C-11-2026 and C-14-2026.
Other routine actions approved included a tobacco permit for Dollar General Store 18011 in Manson (effective July 1, 2026–June 30, 2027) and authorization for the chairman to sign a Letter of Engagement with Hunzelman, Putzier & Co., PLC for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2026.
The meeting minutes note that a teleconference was held with Webster County concerning Joint Drainage Ditch 70-95 and that Planning and Zoning recommended a proposed county zoning ordinance and maps; the board set a public hearing on that proposal for May 19, 2026 at 9:30 AM. No members of the public spoke during the public-comment period.
The board adjourned and scheduled its next regular meeting for May 12 at 9:00 AM.
