Pete Smith was sworn in as a member of the Beachwood City Council at the council’s Feb. 3 meeting.
Council presented Smith with a public service recognition certificate before administering the oath. Smith recited the pledge to support the constitutions of the United States and the State of Ohio and to ‘‘faithfully, honestly and impartially discharge the duties’’ of a council member. Smith told council he considers leadership to be service and promised to give his ‘‘very best and my most sincere efforts.’n The council and department directors offered congratulations and welcomed Smith to the dais. A reception in his honor was announced to follow the meeting.
No formal vote was required for the swearing-in. The meeting continued with regular agenda business, including reports from the mayor, police and fire chiefs and a series of resolutions and motions.
The council’s next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
