Nicole Atkins appointed to New Lebanon council seat

Nicole Atkins was appointed to New Lebanon’s vacant council seat at the Village Council’s Feb. 3 meeting after councilors cast roll-call votes to choose between two nominees.
Council member Back nominated Atkins and another councilor nominated Rob Dennis to fill the seat through Dec. 31, 2026. In the roll call for Atkins, Council member Back, Vice Mayor Cooper, Council member Ston, Council member Wilder and Mayor Nickerson voted yes; Council member Joy voted no; the tally was 5–1. In the subsequent roll call for Mr. Dennis, Council member Joy and Council member Wilder voted yes while four others voted no, 2–4. Mayor Nickerson announced, “Nicole Atkins has the most votes and is our new council member. Congratulations, Nicole. Please come up for your oath of office.”
The appointment filled a vacancy the council opened at the start of the meeting. No formal motion text for the appointment appears in the record beyond the nominations and roll-call tallies. Atkins was asked to come forward for the oath of office immediately after the result was declared.
The selection was procedural: the council received nominations from its members, conducted separate roll-call votes for each nominee and certified Atkins as the winner. The term for the seat runs through Dec. 31, 2026, as stated when the nominations opened.
The council proceeded with the remainder of its agenda, including administrative reports and public comments about last week’s storm response.
