The Trenton City Council on June 10 passed first reading of Ordinance No. 356 to adopt the city's annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2025, and ending June 30, 2026, and set the property tax rate at $1.28 per $100 of assessed value. Alderman Graves moved the ordinance; Alderwoman Holt seconded and a roll call vote was recorded as Graves yes, Wade yes, Holt yes, Jones yes and Elam yes.
City Recorder Leigh Reynolds reported the month's expenditures and the council approved them by voice vote after Alderman Graves moved to accept the report. The approved expenditure amounts reported were $47,192.03 for the general fund and $57,921.25 for sanitation.
Assistant/Staff member Joe Wamble read a report required by the State Comptroller's Office about a debt obligation between the PBA of Clarksville and the City of Trenton: $2,200,000 at a 4.34% interest rate. The Trenton Light and Water report was noted as attached to the meeting record; the council did not read that report aloud in detail during the session.
Council members used the meeting to acknowledge city employees and the budget committee. Alderwoman Jones reminded residents of a state tournament at Shady Acres Park June 12–15; Alderwoman Elam invited the public to a July 3 fireworks event with food and games. Mayor Tony Burriss said city hall will be closed June 19 for Juneteenth observance, and he listed upcoming meetings including a Utility Board meeting June 23 and the next council meeting June 24.
The ordinance remains on first reading; the city did not record a formal second-reading adoption at this meeting. The council adjourned at 6:35 p.m.
