Holly Hills hears operations and engineering updates; two grease traps failed and school project may face higher tap fee

Ismael Gomez of Ramey Environmental Compliance reported that operations inspected 13 grease traps and found two that failed; those units will be repaired and retested. Gomez said the district’s 2025 maintenance plan will begin in March and that ongoing Denver Water work within district boundaries involves repairs rather than replacements.
Will Raatz of W2 Engineers told the board that W2 will confirm satisfactory completion of work before issuing invoices and that the Holly Hills Elementary School project may incur a substantial tap fee if the water tap size is increased. Raatz said the district will contact Metro Water Recovery to confirm the 2025 tap fee schedule. He also said a proposal for surveying and utility locating is in the district’s possession and will be presented and discussed at the next meeting, and that GIS licenses will be transferred to the district and no longer maintained by W2 Engineers.
Attorney Timothy J. Flynn said an addendum related to surveying and utility locating is being prepared and recommended the board consider updating tap and Metro Recovery fees for 2026; he also noted pending legislation that could add additional criteria for determining rates and tap fees.
The board did not take formal action on survey work or tap fees at this meeting but instructed staff to follow up with Metro Water Recovery on fee schedules and to bring surveying proposals and any related addenda back for board consideration at a subsequent meeting.
