Board approves MOUs, resolutions and routine business; secondary six-year VDOT plan adopted

At the May 14 meeting the board approved consent agenda items including a HAZMAT MOU and Solid Waste MOU No. 48, adopted the VDOT Secondary Six-Year Plan (Resolution #28-2026), approved an audit engagement letter, and adopted an emergency ordinance on personal property tax due date.
The Wise County Board of Supervisors handled several routine and substantive items on May 14, approving MOUs, a resolution with VDOT, an audit engagement and an emergency ordinance affecting tax due dates.
Consent and MOUs: The board unanimously approved the Consent Agenda and specific MOUs including a HAZMAT memorandum of understanding and Wise County Solid Waste Management Facilities MOU No. 48 (motions by Robert R. Adkins and seconded by Clarence S. Peters, Jr.).
VDOT six-year plan: Randy Carter moved and Bob Adkins seconded adoption of the Secondary Six-Year Plan; the resolution (filed as Resolution #28-2026) passed unanimously.
Ordinance and proclamations: The board unanimously adopted an emergency ordinance amending the personal property tax due date (Ordinance #5-2026). The board also approved a proclamation recognizing Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (Proclamation #1-2026); a separate Building Safety Month proclamation was listed but not acted on.
Audit and appropriations: The board approved an audit engagement letter with Robinson Farmer Cox CPAs and approved monthly appropriations for June as well as budget amendments #50 and #51. Several appointments were handled: two appointments were tabled to June and reappointments were made to the Regional Improvement Commission and the Building Code and Appeals Board.
Staff report: Interim Administrator Karen T. Mullins noted a statewide ban on Styrofoam food containers effective July 1, 2026, and advised it will affect local food vendors.
