Hoehne board renews $50,000 purchasing authority and approves two extracurricular contracts

Hoehne Reorganized School District No. 3 — The Board of Education renewed its purchasing authority and approved two extracurricular contracts at its Sept. 25 regular meeting.

Board President Brad Blasi called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. During routine business the board unanimously approved the minutes of the Aug. 28 meeting (motion by Board Member Jennifer Yates, seconded by Torrey Walters) and accepted the treasurer's report (motion by Todd Arnhold, seconded by Torrey Walters).

On a motion by Board Member Jennifer Yates, seconded by Vice President Cameron Cummings, the board renewed Policy DJ/DJA (Purchasing/Purchasing Authority) for the 2024–25 school year and set the purchasing threshold at $50,000. The board recorded that the purchasing limit will be reevaluated no later than July 1, 2025. The motion passed unanimously.

The board also approved personnel recommendations from administration, offering a contract to John Terry as junior high football coach and to Brittany Petsche as yearbook sponsor for the 2024–25 school year. Vice President Cameron Cummings moved the personnel motion; Board Member Torrey Walters seconded, and the roll call vote was unanimous.

The minutes record a request from administration for a five-person hiring committee (three staff members and two board members) to interview candidates for a new baseball-program coach and state that Board Member Torrey Walters volunteered to serve. The minutes also list Treasurer Brad Mincic as absent in the roll call earlier in the record; later the minutes show him as a volunteer for the hiring committee. The meeting record contains this internal inconsistency and does not clarify whether Mincic participated in the committee selection.

The board adjourned at 6:53 p.m. The next regular meeting is scheduled for Oct. 23, 2024, at 6:00 p.m.
