The Garfield County School District No. 16 board on Feb. 11 approved three instructional and professional-development purchases: a mathematics curriculum purchased through National Geographic Learning Cengage for a maximum of $118,052; a Newsela Content & Assessment Platform subscription for Grand Valley Middle School for $4,972.50 (non-controversial content option); and a keynote-speaker agreement through Key Speakers for $16,500 for the district professional-development day on March 10 and a student event on March 11.
Assistant Superintendent Amber Clark presented the mathematics-curriculum recommendation. The motion to approve the purchase (moved by Keith Gronewoller; seconded by Brent Baker) passed on a unanimous roll-call vote. The Newsela purchase (moved by Brent Baker; seconded by Samuel W. Stewart) and the keynote agreement (moved by Keith Gronewoller; seconded by Kimberly S. Whelan) also passed unanimously.
The minutes record the vendor and dollar amounts for each item and note that questions were addressed before each vote. The board did not attach additional conditions or amendments to these approvals during the meeting.
