Garfield County School District No. 16 board approves revised budget, equipment purchases and staffing changes; delays two items

The Garfield County School District No. 16 Board of Directors on Jan. 14 approved a revised fiscal year 2024–25 budget that includes a $1,000,000 transfer to district reserves and approved a series of personnel and equipment actions while postponing two agenda items to Feb. 11, 2025.
Chelsey Gerard, the district’s chief financial officer, presented the revised adopted budget and told the board that “$1,000,000 was transferred to reserves.” The board approved the budget on a roll-call vote. The meeting packet and vote record show the motion carried with the present members voting aye and one member absent.
During the meeting the board also voted to: approve equipment purchases funded by the Best Grant; authorize a $5,000 administrator salary adjustment for Nathan A. Humphrey; and create a District Athletic & Activities Director position. Several motions passed by recorded roll-call votes after brief discussions (motions were moved and seconded as noted in the minutes).
The board postponed two items for further consideration at its Feb. 11 meeting: an intergovernmental agreement between Garfield 16 and the Garfield County Urban Renewal Commission (motion M/S Gronewoller/Baker; President Vincent T. Tomasulo recorded an abstention on that postponement) and the district’s annual sponsorship for Phoenix (KSUN) community radio (motion M/S Whelan/Baker).
