Bea Underwood playground certified; district adds Spanish class and schedules theater production

During the board’s Oct. 8 meeting, Superintendent Dr. Jennifer A. Baugh and Assistant Superintendent Amber Clark reported several program and facilities updates for the district.
Amber Clark said the new playground at Bea Underwood Elementary is already in student use though final landscaping remains incomplete. Dr. Baugh added the playground has been certified for use and that a ribbon-cutting ceremony will be scheduled in late fall or the following spring.
Dr. Baugh also said the district has established a Spanish class for Spanish speakers on Mondays, funded by the 21st Century Grant intended to support "at-risk" students; the program will include literacy instruction in students’ native language and cultural components, and the district will provide transportation and food services.
She further noted that Aspen Theater Group has been using Garfield 16 facilities and will present a production of Encanto during November teacher/parent conferences. District staff are continuing weekly OAC meetings to address the HVAC system at Bea Underwood Elementary. Homecoming activities are underway at Grand Valley High School.
Board members did not take formal action on these reports; items were presented for information and future scheduling.
