The Eliot Select Board received an initial overview of the proposed FY27 budget at its Jan. 8 meeting and asked staff to provide clearer documentation and more detailed projections.
Town Manager Michael Sullivan presented highlights including departmental increases — notably in the Police Department and Department of Public Works — fee offsets by the Recreation Department, and adjustments for sewer costs and debt service. Sullivan said the Town expects to use reserves to help fund an upcoming fire engine purchase. Budget Committee Chair Gene Wypyski and member Dan Ammons attended and engaged with Board members during the overview.
Select Board members asked for improved budget documentation (including page and line references) and pressed staff on Fire Department staffing levels and revenue assumptions that underlie the draft. The Town Manager said the Town is exploring capital projects such as a Hammond Park pavilion, expanded sidewalks and a Beech Road safety path; those projects may be presented as separate warrant articles for voter approval.
No votes were taken on the FY27 budget at this meeting; the Board requested supplemental budget detail and follow‑up presentations ahead of future hearings and warrant preparation.
