District operations staff told the board Aug. 12 that bus deliveries have been delayed and maintenance problems have limited the district’s available vehicles.
Chief of Operations and Innovation Nathan A. Humphrey said the district has received only one of the new buses it ordered and that another bus experienced a camera issue and a check-engine light. Humphrey said the district will apply to the Garfield County Federal Mineral Lease District for grant funding to purchase additional buses and to install a fueling station.
The board approved retroactive costs from Colorado Diesel Repair & Fabrication for school-bus repairs on a Gronewoller/Baker motion. Humphrey also noted that the Colorado Department of Education will conduct a transportation audit; the district expects auditors in October and will receive audit findings at the board’s December meeting, according to CFO Chelsey Gerard.
Separately, the board approved a revised bus driver salary schedule intended to address recruitment and retention — the change was presented by Superintendent Dr. Jennifer A. Baugh, CFO Chelsey Gerard and Humphrey and approved on a roll-call vote. No public comments were received on transportation items during the meeting.
