AFTON, Wyo. — A resident urged the Afton Town Council on Aug. 8 to consider providing a site for a splash park being proposed in memory of her daughter and planned to be accessible to individuals with special needs.
Jennifer Johnson told the council the splash park would create a place for families to gather. She said she and others are researching grant opportunities and fundraising to cover construction and maintenance. "I would like to make the splash park accessible for individuals with special needs," Johnson said.
Councilman Jason C. Inskeep recused himself from parts of the discussion, saying he had researched maintenance costs and noted splash parks are typically cheaper to build and maintain than swimming pools. Town Attorney Dale Cottam raised liability issues to be addressed if the town is asked to provide land or operate the facility.
Inskeep said he would report back to the council as further information becomes available. No formal town commitment was made at the meeting.
