Afton police report burglaries, name new full-time officer and plan extra eclipse patrols

AFTON, Wyo. — Afton Police Chief Jason Romberg told the Town Council on Aug. 8 that two local businesses were recently burglarized, a suspect has been apprehended and the cases remain under investigation.
Chief Romberg said the department will increase patrols for the upcoming total solar eclipse and thanked town staff for coordinating logistics. Town Administrator Jonathan Teichert said the town has ordered extra garbage cans and restroom facilities to be placed along Main Street for the event.
Chief Romberg also announced that Jensen Odde, who had been a part-time officer, was hired as a full-time officer to replace Officer Tyler Banta. The council presented Officer Banta with a plaque of appreciation and thanked him for his years of service.
No formal action was required for the personnel announcement; the council acknowledged the hire and the departmental preparations for the public event.
