KDOT awards off-system bridge grant; Cheyenne County commits $45,000 share

Cheyenne County learned this week that KDOT awarded the county an off-system bridge replacement grant for Bridge 51 on B.B. Road. County public works staff said the project will appear on the regular inspection and bi-weekly monitoring list, and the county needs to sign Form 1302 to launch the work.
Public works staff described the county’s nonparticipating engineering cost as approximately $45,000 — roughly the county’s share if the estimated project cost is at least $300,000. Commissioners moved to approve committing the $45,000 and to sign the required documentation; the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff noted the off-system program covers most construction costs but leaves the county responsible for project engineering and related nonparticipating items. If movement is detected during inspections at other bridges, the county said it may be required to close a bridge for safety reasons.
The board asked staff to return signed paperwork and to notify the county when the project number and schedule are available.
