Board hears food-service pricing options and hears update on proposed special-education funding bill

At the May 11, 2026 meeting the Oregon School District board received an informational presentation on 2026–2027 food-service pricing and a legislative update on proposed state funding.

Andy Weiland, the district business manager, and Ms. Bienlein presented background on challenges facing the food-service program, current participation rates, efforts taken to raise participation and several possible price options for the coming school year. The board had moved the food-service item from action to information earlier in the meeting, allowing administration to present options without an immediate vote.

Weiland also provided a brief federal and state legislative update, saying that a bill had been proposed that would increase special-education funding and provide state aid intended to help with property tax relief; he said the information had just been made available and that administration will provide more detail if the bill becomes law.

Separately, the Visioning Steering Committee scheduled a May 18 meeting to discuss an update on the splash pad, and Superintendent Dr. Leslie Bergstrom shared photos and district highlights and referred the board to the Superintendent's Report on the district website for full details.

Next steps noted by the board: administration will not implement food-service price changes at this meeting and will return with additional information as appropriate; administration will monitor the proposed state legislation and report back if it advances into law or if more detail is available.
