On June 2 Bedford Heights council voted to direct the administration to prepare legislation authorizing the purchase and annual display of a Juneteenth flag at city hall to be raised each year from June 1 through June 19.
A council member moved that the administration prepare the legislation; the motion was seconded and a roll-call vote recorded yes votes from all present members. Council members noted that placing the flag at the civic (community) center would require a separate administrative action.
Council asked the law department to draft an ordinance for consideration at the next council meeting. The motion directs staff to return with proposed legislation; no ordinance number or funding appropriation for the flag purchase was specified in the meeting record.
